Finding Sanity in an Insane World

As, I mentioned last time, personal space…….should be well just that, your personalize space. Moreover, whoever gets to occupy that space is determined by yours truly meaning YOU. Some people have a difficult time defining their personal space and this is often times because they have poor boundaries. In other words, they’re limit setting challenged. Some people mean well, they maybe just have a difficult time saying, “no.” We live in a society that is perpetuated by social media and everyone wants to be “liked” and feel included and a part of something bigger than themselves. However, at the expense of being considered “in the know” and “popular” and even “well informed” we often lose our sense of purpose and identity because we’re caught up in the social media world and between navigating that culture, coupled with balancing school, work, and everything in between we sometimes lose our sense of purpose. Hence, remember the boundary thing I mentioned earlier. We should all learn to set healthy boundaries in what often seems like a boundary less world. Therefore, let’s start with you, learn to set healthy limits……..indulgence is highly overrated! So, repeat after me…..Boundaries promote sanity in this insane world. Now take a deep breath….breathe in and out and restate.

Recently, I’ve heard more often than I care to repeat, “everything is upside down” referring to today’s Culture. So, how do we turn things right side up or bottom side down depending on which end you prefer?

Let’s start with personal space. Our personal space should not be cluttered with anything irrelevant or high maintenance. In other words, if people, places or things don’t add value to your personhood, they shouldn’t occupy your personal space. For example; negative people who complain and gossip usually carry negative energy, so why would you want your personal space filled with negative energy which also impacts your sense of well-being.

Secondly, don’t waste your time visiting places that are counter-productive to your sense of identity and worth. Where do you frequent and yet ask yourself, why do I continue going there? I don’t like the people or the atmosphere yet I continue patronizing this place. That’s a great question to ask yourself….now what’s your answer?

Thirdly, we live in a materialistic society. And as humans, some of us have an insatiable appetite for things….anything. If it’s new and the latest and the greatest, we think we must have it, regardless of the cost?

Ask yourself this question the next time you are tempted to impulsively buy or acquire something. Is this thing really going to add value to my life?

Find your Sanity in this insane world starting with protecting your personal space. Your peace of mind will thank you!
